Since 2004, Lori and I have been involved in a Tijauna, Mexico work called EL REFUGIO (the Refuge). It’s a unique Home for the Elderly that serves the needs of the poor and destitute, those that have no family and no other place to live.
It was started in the late 90’s by Pastor Jesus (‘Chuy’) Mandragon when the Lord ‘opened his eyes’ to the numerous elderly living on the street in Tijuana. Through many miracles, God provided land and buildings for the work on top of a hill in the poor Tijuana colony of Flores Magon. The home has now grown to serve the needs of around 90 elderly, plus the live-in volunteer staff and their families. The leaders, residents and staff daily look to the LORD for provision.
Our good Mexican friend Dr Tamez helped establish a medical clinic to serve the complex needs of the elderly residents and staff. Late last year, he asked us to come and help.
Our involvement at El Refugio has grown. Lori and I are now working on-site a couple days a week, plus additional time making contacts and acquiring supplies and material to care for these precious folk.
There are many on-going needs at Refugio. If you feel the Lord nudging you to help, be sure and contact us.

El Refugio gives many ‘abandoned’ elderly a place to belong, to live and to die with dignity. We sense the great joy and presence of the LORD in caring for these precious ones. Please pray for us as we labor in love, and pray for the residents and staff of El Refugio!
